A fire extinguisher with my wedding cake YUK!

Things that can spoil the look of your once in a lifetime wedding cake pictures.

  1. Fire Extinguisher
  2. Lockers
  3. Open Windows
  4. Drain Pipes

Just to name a few.  Don’t just look at the table where your wedding cake will be, look behind it too.  If this was the only place where this cake could be placed, the bride and/or her mother should have asked to have a dark curtain placed behind the table.  No prints, strips, etc.

Money Saving Wedding Floral Tip

Wedding pomanders

Wedding Floral Pomanders

The pricey floral pomanders worked hard for their money:  They hung from the altar during the ceremony, then were moved to the reception tables to be used as centerpieces.

Brides — please, don’t try to…

Fall Wedding Cakesave money on the wedding cake. Economize on the decorations, the flowers, the food — but not the cake. Think about it: what differentiates a wedding reception from any other event? What do guests rush over to admire as soon as they get to the reception hall? What sends little girls dreaming and intrigues little boys because of the intricacy? You guessed it, the cake. So please, don’t skimp on it.

Your friend may be a good baker and have decorated kids’ cakes, but you have to remember that even the best and most well intentioned baker on the planet isn’t born knowing how to do a wedding cake. It’s not just a question of piling cakes on top of each other; it’s an architectural job of considerable skill, not to mention making it look fabulous and taste wonderful. I have seen cakes propped up by books, cakes with someone obliged to stand there and support them so they wouldn’t collapse… And then there’s the issue of calculating portions, which is a science all its own. You really have to know what you’re doing, which explains why they cost what they cost.

These poor brides had tried so hard to have everything perfect, and these cakes, which should have been a showpiece admired by all, were a fiasco. What a memory!

Please, even if you don’t get the cake from me, get it from a reputable baker who has years of experience making wedding cakes.

A Wedding without a Cake?

Topsey Turvy Wedding CakeThe ancient Romans used to make a cake of barley or wheat and then break it over the bride’s head as a sign of fertility. The wheat from which it was made symbolized fertility and the guests eagerly picked up the crumbs as good luck charms. It also became customary to pile several small cakes to create one large tier. The bride and groom would then try to kiss over the tower of cakes without knocking it over. If they succeeded, it was a sign that their marriage would be long and prosperous. Later, a clever baker decided to amass all these small cakes together, covering them with frosting. Thus, the modern tied cake was born.

How much money can you put in your pocket if you saved just 10% on your wedding?

Save money on your wedding

It doesn’t matter whether your wedding budget is $5,000, $10,000, or even $50,000.
Let’s just say that your wedding budget is only $10,000. If you saved just 10% it would give you $1,000 in savings.

You know what you want for your wedding, just do not depend on the following.

  • Making Your Own Wedding Cake unless you are a great baker.
  • Having a Wedding in Your Backyard. Unless you love your Backyard.
  • Buying a Used or Cheap Quality Wedding Dress unless you want a Flea Market or Salvation Army dress.
  • Having Your Friend to Take Wedding Photos unless you want to laugh later on in life.

Happy is the Bride showered with rain

Rainy Wedding Day Bride

Rainy Wedding Day Bride

Rain is considered to be a good wedding omen in Germany, Sweden, and France. This is possibly because rain is associated with a bountiful harvest, and thus, fertility. Some believe that the rainier the wedding day, the more children the marriage will produce. (So if you get married during a downpour, I guess that you can expects to have triplets!)

Whether you consider rain to be a lucky sign or not, there is always a chance that it will fall on your wedding day.

To make wet weather less of an issue for a outdoor wedding:

  • *plan in advance for inclement weather:
  • *if you are planning an outdoor wedding, check the Farmer’s Almanac for the driest times of year in your hometown
