You have been imagining your wedding day since you were a little girl, so before meeting with the cake designer you should do the following:

  1. Determine your wedding cake budget; don’t go to a consolation with a baker who charges more per serving than is in your budget, as it will be a waste of your and their time.
  2. Find out if the baker has extra charges, i.e.: delivery, set up, certain flowers, etc., as this may take it out of your budget.
  3. Have a good idea of what you want
    1. Color scheme
    2. Flowers
    3. Approximately how many guests you expect

How to Set Your Wedding Budget

Wedding Budget

Wedding Budget

The numbers are in, and they aren’t pretty.  With the average wedding cost between $10,000 and $28,000, it’s no wonder tackling the budget is one of the most overwhelming tasks on your to-do list.  Here is help to put it all in perspective and build a plan of attack.

Step 1: Talk to all contributing parties

As the cost of weddings increase, so does the number of people paying for them (good news for the bride’s parents, who no longer need to take out a second mortgage to fund their daughter’s nuptials). You’ll need to sit down with everyone who is going to contribute to the wedding-day piggy bank and discuss how to logically divide the tab and arrive at a total number.

Step 2: Allocate totals for each service accordingly

Now that you’ve arrived at a reasonable total budget, you’ll need to determine where that money is going to go.  Come up with a list of items, vendors, and details you’ll need, and how much you’ll allocate to each.  Then you can customize each amount based on your style and priorities. For instance, if a fabulous wedding gown is particularly important to you, you may splurge in that area, and make up for it by cutting back on your floral arrangements.

What Does It Take To Make The Perfect Cake To Suit Your Wedding?!

The Wedding Cake — lovingly prepared and beautifully presented — is a major part of this event. I can help you design a cake that will meet all of your high expectations, as well as respect your budget. Then I will work with you every step of the way to ensure that things are carried out flawlessly, so that you and your new spouse can relax and enjoy the day instead of fretting over details.

Please note that I do not play the game that many bakers play. When you ask, “How much will this cake cost?” they quote you a price that sounds eminently reasonable. What they “forget” to mention is that this is just the cost of the cake, and that everything else is “extra” i.e. delivery, set up, rental of plates, pillars, fountain, etc. By the time this is all tacked onto price of the cake, you wind up paying two or even three times the initial quote.

I think that’s outrageous. This may be standard industry practice, but I disapprove of it. I offer free delivery in Livingston County, free set up, use of all my equipment like pillars, plates, fountain, castle, to name a few. I do this to not only help you stay within your budget, but I want you to feel good about working with me, not like you’ve been sucked into a purchase  from which there is no escape. I will sit down with you over cake and coffee/tea, find out exactly what you need, and then give you one all-inclusive price.

Great cake, great service, and honest pricing — I’ll take good care of you!

You have set a budget, Now What?

What have you choosen that you have to have?

  1. Wedding Dress
  2. Tuxes
  3. Church
  4. Hall
  5. Flowers
  6. Caterer
  7. Wedding Cake
  8. Music
  • Now that you have chosen what you have to have, set a budget for each item.  Start with to most important item on your list and talk to a couple of the vendors in that group.
  • Best way to find vendors is thru referrals, bridal shows, checking wedding sites on the Internet, etc.
  • Let the vendor know your budgeted price for that item.  Don’t be surprised if they say that they can’t do it for that price. Still see what they have to offer.  Go home, think about it.  If your really like the item, it is actually what you want, see where you can cut back on other items.

On the wedding cake, check taste first.  Do you like the taste?  Will your guests like the taste?  Then go to looks.

What is 2010 bringing you?

Are you planning on losing weight?  Are you planning on saving more money? But most of all are you planning a wedding?

When planning a wedding you will first need to make a budget.  To do this:

  1. Check you finances
  2. Check with friends and family who have recently been married.
  3. Go to a Bridal Show to see what vendors are charging.
  4. Decide what you really want to have and what you could do without.
  5. Make a list: Want; have to have; could do without with approx prices.
  6. Now you can make a budget for your wedding.
  7. Most important:  DO NOT BORROW TO PAY FOR YOUR WEDDING. Do you really want to start out your married life with a $10,000+ debt which increases with finance charges or would you like to be able to buy your first house?
