Your Wedding is the most important day……

Your wedding is one of the most important events in your entire life, and I understand that you want it to bring delightful memories to everyone involved — especially you!

The Wedding Cake — lovingly prepared and beautifully presented — is a major part of this event. I can help you design a cake that will meet all of your high expectations, as well as respect your budget. Then I will work with you every step of the way to ensure that things are carried out flawlessly, so that you and your new spouse can relax and enjoy the day instead of fretting over details.

Please note that I do not play the game that many bakers play. When you ask, “How much will this cake cost?” they quote you a price that sounds eminently reasonable. What they “forget” to mention is that this is just the cost of the cake, and that everything else is “extra” i.e. delivery, set up, rental of plates, pillars, fountain, etc. By the time this is all tacked onto price of the cake, you wind up paying two or even three times the initial quote.

I think that’s outrageous. It’s standard industry practice, but I disapprove of it, because I want you to feel good about working with me, not like you’ve been sucked into a whirlwind from which there is no escape. I will sit down with you over cake and coffee/tea, find out exactly what you need, and then give you one all-inclusive price.

Great cake, great service, and honest pricing — I’ll take good care of you!

What Does It Take To Make The Perfect Cake

black on white wedding cakeYour wedding is one of the most important events in your entire life, and I understand that. You want your wedding cake to bring delightful memories to everyone involved — especially you!

The Wedding Cake — lovingly prepared and beautifully presented — is a major part of this event. I can help you design a cake that will meet all of your high expectations, as well as respect your budget.
Please note that I do not play the game that many bakers play. When you ask them, “How much will this cake cost?”, other bakers quote you a price that sounds very reasonable. What they “forget” to mention is that price is just the cost of their servings of cake, and that everything else is “extra” such as delivery, set up, rental of plates, pillars, fountain, etc. By the time this is all tacked onto price of the cake, you wind up paying two or even three times the initial quote.

I think that’s outrageous, it may be a standard industry practice, but it is a practice I do not do. I have very few extra charges, which do not include set up, delivery in Livingston County, or rental of any of my equipment.

I sit down with you over cake and coffee, find out exactly what your dreams are, help you design your cake and then give you the complete price.

I have great cake, great service, and honest pricing — I’ll take good care of you!

No matter how you slice it,

Peacock Wedding Cakeyou’re sure to find the perfect cake with these four tips.

  1. When looking for a cake designer, start early.
Begin your wedding cake designer search about three to six months before the wedding—even sooner if you want an in-demand pro. Some bakers’ schedule their wedding cake commitments about a year in advance.
  2. Narrow your wedding cake search.
Many wedding cake designers showcase their creations on a web site, check it out to see if they design the kind of cake you want.  Set up an appointment for a cake consultation and tasting.  “Do not compromise taste for the look or price of the cake .”  Wedding cake prices are based on the size of the cake, the amount of labor needed to create it and the cost of its ingredients. More experienced and reputable wedding bakers are usually pricier. You want your wedding cake to look the very best, but it is important that you to stay within budget.  There is a cake designer out there who can do just that for you and makes an awesome tasting cake too, “me”.
  3. Keep talking with your wedding cake designer.
Provide the baker with as much information about your wedding as you can: the location, the level of formality, your wedding dress, the colors, the wedding flowers, etc..  The whole idea is to customize the look of the cake.
  4. Get your wedding cake price in writing.
To ensure you get the exact wedding cake you want, check that all the details, including the date, place and time of the wedding, plus the style and flavors of the cake, are in your contract with the designer. Your baker should update the contract anytime you change your mind, and as you choose further details. Whether it’s with a written description or a sketch, it should be clear to you exactly how your cake will look on the wedding day.

How do I handle a bridesmaidzilla?

bridesmaidsQ:My sister is turning into a bridesmaidzilla. She’s insisting I invite five of her friends (even though I don’t know them), and that I pay for her hair and makeup. My budget is limited, but should I try to appease her to keep the peace?

A: You are not obligated to invite five people you don’t know to your wedding, nor pay for her hair and makeup especially if you can’t afford it.

Why don’t you ask her to join you for lunch, and a day of shopping. Keep the conversation light and breezy with the focus on her not your wedding plans or your fiance’. Towards the end of the day remind her that you and your fiancé are trying to work within a budget and you cannot afford to add people to your guest list or have added expenses. Be sure to let her know that you want her, all your family and your friends to share in your big day and have a wonderful time.

May be she wants her friends added to the guest list because she does not feel comfortable with those you invited.  In that case, you  may want to let her invite one of of her friends and if she still wants all three invited, ask her to cover the cost of adding them to your guest list.

As for paying for her hair and makeup, if you can afford it, why not pay for one or the other? Or…Why not have a sister’s spa day and cover the cost of her manicure(not acrylic)?

Five More money saving Wedding tips

We will keep giving you more and more money saving tips as we get them.

  1. Save on your rehearsal dinner site by throwing a backyard barbecue or a picnic in a local park—both of which will cost you less than a dinner in a restaurant. (These may be more fun too!)
  2. Trim the length of your reception. Even doing three hours instead of four or five will save you money. Trust us, everyone will enjoy themselves just as much.
  3. Determine early on what you can spend and stick to it. One rule of thumb: Food, beverage and venue should come to half of your budget.
  4. Most venues charge a premium for Saturday night. Hold your reception on a Thursday, Friday or Sunday night. An afternoon wedding will cost less than an evening one, as will a Sunday brunch.
  5. Consider the season— you’re likely to get a better price for a venue in January than you would for the same spot in June.

Saving money on drinks for any event

  1. Forget the full bar. Instead, serve beer and wine (both red and white).
  2. Make sure the wait staff knows not to pre-open bottles or clear glasses from tables that aren’t empty. This is a sheer waste of money!
  3. Close the open bar an hour early and offer coffee. You’ll save hundreds of dollars; even better, guests will have a chance to sober up before they head out to the road.
  4. Eliminate shots or any drinks that make use of a number of liquors—these all raise your bar tab and aren’t necessary for guests to have fun.
  5. Don’t forget to have some inexpensive (nonalcoholic) drinks on hand. Consider fresh lemonade in tall, sugar-rimmed glasses for a warm-weather wedding or sparkling water with colorful wedges of orange, lemon or lime.
  6. And my favorite serve non-alcoholic beverages with cute whimsical names and sparkling water relabeled with your names and wedding date.

Your Wedding Budget

Talk to all contributing parties, as the cost of weddings increase, so does the number of people paying for them (good news for the bride’s parents, who no longer need to take out a second mortgage to fund their daughter’s nuptials). You’ll need to sit down with everyone who is going to contribute to the wedding-day piggy bank and discuss how to logically divide the tab and arrive at a total number.

Now that you’ve arrived at a reasonable total budget, you’ll need to determine where that money is going to go. Come up with a list of items and services you’ll need, and how much you’ll allocate to each.  Then you can customize each amount based on your style and priorities. For instance, if a fabulous wedding cake is particularly important to you, you may splurge in that area, and make up for it by cutting back on your floral arrangements.

Just remember that if you have divided up the costs by item that what you decide on the budget for say the cake or the flowers is affordable for the person who is in charge for paying for it.

You have a life, Now a wedding

Wedding Planning

Wedding Planning

It’s 10 a.m. on a busy weekday morning at your job, and you have a mountain of paperwork on your desk—but what are you doing, you’re surfing the Net for a wedding cake designer. The big day is getting closer, and you have a lot of preparation still to do. Now what?  If you play on the net, don’t the work done, you might just find yourself out of a job and then who would pay for the wedding.

You have a job. You have a life. Now you have a wedding to plan. Here are a few  tips to help you get it all done (without messing up!).

Successfully managing a project, like a wedding, is all about organization.

  1. There are plenty of tools available to help you do just that—and minimize the possibility of wasting precious time. Many brides like to use wedding-planning books that have helpful checklists and worksheets.
  2. One way is to keep a binder that includes separate folders for all the information you gather about your wedding ceremony, reception, vendors, bridal party, guest list and finances. As your wedding-day draws closer, get another binder to hold separate folders that contain contact information for all your vendors (including cell-phone numbers), final tallies for guest lists, seating arrangements, schedules and any other pertinent information that you just may need for your wedding day.
  3. Get to the office early (yes, you can!). If you’re at your desk before everyone else gets in, you’ll have a chance to send out some e-mails to vendors and get the ball rolling. Make a couple of follow-up calls on your coffee break. If you commute to work (by bus, train or ferry), make use of this time to go over contracts or to update your to-do list. Have a doctor’s appointment? Take along samples of wedding photographers’ work to go over while you wait.
  4. Many busy brides are going high-tech to get the help they need. Wedding-related computer programs, like weddingsoft.com and fivestarsoftware.com, allow you to keep track of expenses, the guest list and your deadlines.
  5. Delegate.

How to budget your Wedding.

Wdding BudgetLooking for some easy ways to save money on your wedding? Here are some ideas. Write out your budget before starting your search for Venues and Vendors. I find bride always look at vendor outside of their price. Are you considering having a smaller wedding party that will help? Reason why? Every bridesmaid or groomsman represents a dollar amt. (gift etc.). Back to venue; don’t pick a venue that needs tons of decorations and sprucing up. It will end up costing a bundle more and won’t look as great as a venue that is beautiful as it stand alone. You can cut cost by do-it-yourself project, whether it’s centerpieces or invitation. Believe or not it can be a fun project for you and your friends, plus it’s more affordable. Just knowing your budget and stick to it, will save you a lot of money in the long run.
